About Us

The Freedman family has been in the meat business since the 1930s. The business grew  from a single truck operation to an international group of companies with combined annual sales of over $350 million.

The group of companies included: Freedman Distributors (a retail distribution company in Houston, Texas);  Freedman Food Service (with processing facilities in Dallas and Houston, Texas);  Texas Meat Purveyors (with processing facilities in Austin, San Antonio, and Harlingen, Texas); and Comercial Norteamericana (with facilities at seven locations in Mexico).  In January, 2000, Sysco Foods purchased the Freedman Food Service and Texas Meat Purveyors divisions.
